1098-T Form
The 1098-T form reports tuition charged and financial aid awarded to students enrolled in courses at Cornell during the calendar year for which they receive academic credit.
The information reported on the 1098-T helps students evaluate whether he or she is eligible for the Lifetime Learning Credit or Hope Credit. IRS Publication 970 on "Tax Benefits for Higher Education" provides additional information on these credits. Taxpayers file for these credits using IRS Form 8863.
Cornell does not issue a 1098-T if financial aid equals or exceeds tuition charges, if the student is a nonresident alien, or if the student is enrolled only in not-for-credit courses.
Additional information is available on the IRS Web site (see below), and on our FAQ page. For other questions about the 1098-T, send an e-mail to uco-bursar@cornell.edu or call 1-888-888-3469.
